Job Summary:

  • Provide professional Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) support to the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM), Epidemiology Consult Service Division (PHR).
  • Provide functional and consultative support to USAFSAM/PHR on investigations and data requests in relation to the Hearing Conservation Program.
  • Contribute to the field units through active participation in professional conferences, publications of peer-reviewed manuscripts, and presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Provide support to field unit requests for consultation and analysis of specific issues when tasked by USAFSAM/PHR.
  • Serve as the initial functional advisor and specialist to the DOEHRS-HC/DR applications, including management of DR accounts and lookup tables, system change request (SCR), or system information request (SIR) entry as requested by customers, and be, or gain, proficiency with the HC software.
  • Perform data collection, analysis and provide reports (in writing or verbally) as required through ad hoc reporting in support of USAFSAM/PHR’s hearing conservation mission.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for users requesting data and/or data-related support services (e.g. data analysis, data interpretation, report generation), and participate in decisions on data systems design, upgrading, and integration, as well as software testing.
  • Collaborate regularly with other DoD components in reporting issues, suggesting solutions, and support hearing conservation best practices in relation to DOEHRS-HC/DR.
  • Assist USAFSAM/PHR during collaborative efforts to increase data sharing capabilities and surveillance partnerships with base level users and other principal stakeholders in the USAFSAM/PHR surveillance systems.
  • Provide regular technical reports and worksheets using DOEHRS-HC/DR data when requested by base-level personnel, USAFSAM/PHR, the MAJCOM, Air Force Medical Readiness Agency (AFMRA), and Defense Health Agency (DHA).
  • Interface at the unit level with regularly scheduled site visits to review unit level HC program management.
  • Coordinate and design appropriate education and training materials for use at base-level and USAFSAM, based on HC program best practices and DoD/USAF protocols and deliver written and verbal education and training on hearing conservation topics at base-level and in USAFSAM formal courses.
  • Provide institutional review board (IRB) proposals and surveillance protocols related to hearing conservation topics.
  • Cultivate research protocols for prioritized research areas and submit these protocols to the appropriate IRB.
  • Work with USAFSAM/PHR epidemiology SME’s to expand and maintain data sharing agreements with other DoD or civilian components related to hearing conservation, and coordinate research efforts including alternative HC program service delivery models.
  • Be current in Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training to be able to access and process identified medical data. Contractor personnel shall be current in Scientific and Technical Information (STINFO) training and Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative.
  • Provide diagnostic clinical audiological evaluations to include pure tone audiometry, emittance, speech, optoacoustic emission, and electrophysiology testing as needed for virtual and/or telehealth related activities.
  • Provide clinical audiology consultation and records review as needed for the HCP and the aeromedical consult service within USAFSAM.



  • Doctor of Audiology (Au. D.) degree and at minimum, two years of knowledge and experience in military audiology/occupational hearing conservation and prevention programs and clinical care.
  • Audiology/occupational hearing conservation teaching or instructor experience, at a minimum 20 hours within the past two years, to include giving verbal presentation to a broad range of audiences from the general public to medical professionals.
  • Completion of the Air Education and Training Command’s Basic Instructor Course is required
  • Experience with the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System, Hearing Conservation/Data Repository (DOEHRS-HC/DR) and related programs and be able to provide general computer application support related to audiometers, audiometer accessories, audiometer software and hearing conservation-related databases.
  • Possess the expertise and capability to utilize the DOEHRS-HC/DR and ad hoc reporting tools.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of Applications.
  • Proficient in granting access to the above mentioned systems/applications to authorized users, as well as, ensure data maintained within the systems/applications is current, accurate, edited, stored, retrieved, assessed, and reported (in written or verbal form) and provide said information as needed/requested by customers.
